Kasabian performing I.D. at Reading Festival 2012

I.D. was written by Sergio Pizzorno and Christopher Karloff and is the 4th track on Kasabian's debut album.

Background[]

In an interview in February 2005, Serge explained that the band was "trying for a DJ Shadow thing, molding prog hip-hop with punk rock, treating it dirty and being filthy" on I.D.[1] An early version of the song, sung by Serge and known then by the name "Lost Soul", was recorded at Bedrock Studios, Leicester in 2000. The lyrics at the time included the line "music is my soul".[2]

Live[]

I.D. has been performed consistently during the debut album era and sometimes during the Empire Tour. It was brought back for the European and arena tours in late 2009, dropped for the 2009 summer festivals but often played at the regular gigs in smaller venues that year. It has been a part of setlist for most of the Velociraptor! Tour. Starting from the European tour in November 2011, the song features a new intro, for which Serge joins Ben on keyboards.

It was played acoustically only once at the Little Noise Sessions in November 2008.

Lyrics[]

No one else is here
And I can't get a sense of nothing
No one else gets high
And I can't sleep cause I got nothing
Feeling I have lost control
To a higher force and
This music is my
My whore

No one else is here
And I can't get a sense of nothing
No one else comes clean
And I can't sleep cause I got nothing
Feeling I have lost control
To a higher force and
Music is my
My whore
