"Heroes" is a song by David Bowie, released on his 1977 album by the same name.

Background[]

Kasabian's cover of "Heroes" has been used for ITV's coverage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was available as a free download with the pre-order of the Empire single.[1] It's also an iTunes-exclusive bonus track on the US edition of Empire. According to the band, David Bowie gave their version his approval and likened it to a Velvet Underground song.[2][3]

Quotes[]

"There might be a lot of Bowie fans that might not be too happy with what we did, but we had to keep it upbeat because it was for the ITV football - for people scoring goals and fans going wild, getting behind their country and everything. We did an upbeat version which is only like twenty seconds. It was fun. David Bowie gave his thumbs up, which was even better."

Lyrics[]

I
I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins
Like dolphins can swim
Though nothing
Will keep us together
We can beat them
For ever and ever

We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day

We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day

I
I will be king
And you
You will be queen
Though nothing
Will drive them away

We can be heroes
Just for one day
