Mortis was written by Sergio Pizzorno and is the 4th track on 48:13.

Mortis, which is styled as (mortis) in the tracklisting, is a predominantly instrumental interlude that features a spoken word sample of Serge's grandfather saying the song's only lyrics: "in mortis ora incerta est" - a Latin phrase meaning "the hour of death is uncertain." "There's something powerful about a 94-year-old man saying that," Serge told the BBC.[1] Prior to all song titles being reduced to one word, the title of Mortis was the full Latin sentence.[2]

Mortis has never been performed live.
